Debby doesn't do it for free is a group of sex worker activists, artists and performers from around Australia.

More than 30 female, male and transgender sex workers have shown work in our exhibitions, video installations and soundscapes or performed as part of our cabaret and karoake shows.

about Debby

Using the age old sexworker technique of adopting pseudonyms to protect identity, the "Debbys" are injecting a much needed whore consciousness into the Australian psyche. Expelling the myths and exploring the contradictions, the "Debbys" shamelessly delve into the nooks, crannys
and crevices of the global sex industry and the stereotypes that surround it.

Discrimination against sex workers is still high in Australia.

  • Women still lose their children in family law battles because they are sex workers.
  • Gay male sex workers are still excluded from the scene.
  • Policy is still developed to 'help us' without any consultation with us.
  • Street based sex workers are still criminalised in order to 'protect them'.
  • Anti-sex work academics are sill invited to speak at conferences about us when we are sitting in the audience.
  • Brothel owners still make us sign contracts stating we are not employees.
  • Project Disrespect still advocates for the criminalisation of our clients - against our wishes.
